Welcome to the Art of Happiness! 🎨

Hello and welcome to our free course of calligraphy that's designed not just to teach you a skill, but to usher in the New Year with a touch of happiness and positivity. As we bid farewell to the challenges of 2020-2022 and look forward to 2021-2023, I extend my best wishes to you. My hope for you is not just to find happiness in the coming years but to be able to express it beautifully through the ancient art of Chinese calligraphy.

Learn to Write "Happiness" 🌟

In this course, we will focus on mastering the character "福" (Fu), which represents happiness in Chinese culture. Pronounced "Fu," this single stroke can bring joy and good fortune to you and those around you. Let's embark on a journey together and make this New Year one of prosperity and fulfillment.

The Art of the Five Styles 📜

We will delve into the composition of "happiness" and then explore its expression in five major calligraphy styles:

  • Seal Script (金文 - Jīnwén): The oldest and most stylized form of Chinese calligraphy.
  • Official Script (隸書 - Lìshū): A formal script used in official documents during the Han Dynasty.
  • Clerical Script (銘撮 - Mòpǔ): A flowing cursive form from the Northern Wei Dynasty.
  • Regular Script (楷書 - Kǎishū): A simplified script that was used for everyday writing and publishing.
  • Cursive Script (行書 - Xíngshū): A semi-cursive style that is both artistic and legible.

These scripts are presented in their historical order, allowing you to see the evolution of Chinese calligraphy over time.

Materials for Success 🎭

To begin your calligraphic journey, you will need a few supplies:

  • A medium-large sized brush (if available)
  • Some rice paper (Xuan raw rice paper, 宣纸)
  • Ink (liquid or ink blocks) - Rice paper is recommended as it absorbs the ink beautifully and provides a smooth writing experience.

Even if you don't own a brush, let your creativity flow! There are many ways to practice these beautiful strokes.

Your Path to Mastery 🪖

In this course, you will not only learn the technical aspects of writing "happiness" but also have the opportunity to apply what you've learned on nice presentation papers. This will give you a sense of accomplishment and allow you to share your art with friends and family.

As we progress through each style, remember that calligraphy is as much about the journey as it is about the destination. Enjoy every stroke, every line, and every character as you write your way to happiness in the New Year.

Join Us & Spread the Joy! 💖

I can't wait to see your progress and celebrate with you as we bring happiness into our lives through the beautiful art of Chinese calligraphy. Let this course be a reminder that happiness is not just a word, but a way of life.

All my best wishes for a happy, healthy, and prosperous year ahead!
