Course Title: Learn Digital Electronics using Schematics & FPGA Board
Instructor: M Ajmir Goolam Hossen
Course Description:
Embark on a journey to master the fascinating world of digital electronics, without getting tangled in complex HDL coding. This course is meticulously crafted for beginners who aspire to understand and design digital systems. By leveraging the powerful Xilinx ISE Schematics tool, you'll learn to create complex designs by simply dragging, dropping, and connecting symbols on a schematic interface. Say goodbye to intimidating HDL languages like VHDL/Verilog and hello to a practical, hands-on approach to digital design.
How This Course Works:
- Understanding the Basics: We kick off by breaking down complex concepts into easy-to-digest parts, ensuring you have a solid foundation before moving on to practical applications.
- Visual Learning with Schematics: Using Xilinx ISE Schematics, we'll guide you through creating your designs visually. This tool is perfect for beginners as it simplifies the design process.
- Hands-On Experience: After designing your digital system on paper, you'll bring it to life by generating a bit file with ISE and loading it onto the Basys 2 board. Watch in awe as your design functions in real-time!
- Focus on Concepts: This course is all about understanding how digital electronics work. While we won't cover software simulation, you'll get to test your designs directly on hardware, providing a deeper, more practical grasp of the subject.
What You'll Need:
- Xilinx ISE Webpack: This free version of the software is essential for running our course and implementing your designs.
- Basys 2 Board: This FPGA board serves as the perfect platform to test and verify your designs. It comes with a Spartan 3E FPGA and various inputs/outputs.
Course Content:
The course is divided into sections, each focusing on a core building block of digital electronics, such as:
- Registers: Learn about Flip Flops and Shift Registers, then implement your own using the FPGA.
- Logic Gates: Understand how basic logic gates function and combine them to create more complex circuits.
- Random Access Memory (RAM): Explore how data is stored and retrieved in digital memory.
For each block, you'll get a detailed explanation followed by a practical activity to implement the circuit on an FPGA and test it with the Basys 2 board.
Interactive Learning:
- Quizzes: Throughout the course, engaging quizzes will keep you focused and ensure that you're absorbing the material.
- Practical Activities: Most activities involve simply loading your design onto the Basys 2 board and using switches for inputs and LEDs for outputs. By the end of the course, you'll also learn how to interface with external components through JTAGs.
Join us in this enlightening adventure into the world of digital electronics. With hands-on experience, practical application, and a focus on understanding rather than coding, this course is your gateway to becoming an expert in digital design! 👨💻✨
