Why take this course?
Lesson 5: Advanced Subtracting
In this lesson, you will learn how to subtract larger numbers from one another, including borrowing from the minuend (the number from which you are subtracting) when the subtrahend (the number being subtracted) is smaller than the divisor in a place value column. This is similar to the borrowing process in addition but in reverse.
Lesson 6: Introduction to Multiplication
This lesson introduces the concept of multiplication, where you are essentially repeating addition a specific number of times. You'll learn how to multiply single-digit numbers, focusing on understanding the relationship between multiplication and division.
Lesson 7: Basic Multiplication
Here, you will practice multiplying basic one-, two-, and three-digit numbers. You'll learn different methods, such as using a grid or the Latin square (also known as the box method), to help with the process.
Lesson 8: Advanced Multiplication
In this lesson, you will tackle multiplication problems involving larger numbers, including mixed numbers and improper fractions. You'll also learn about the properties of multiplication, such as the difference of a unit method, and how it can simplify calculations.
Lesson 9: Introducing Dividing
This lesson introduces you to the concept of division, where you are essentially sharing a quantity into equal parts. You'll learn how to divide whole numbers, focusing on understanding the relationship between division and multiplication.
Lesson 10: Basic Dividing
You will practice dividing basic whole numbers. You'll learn different methods, such as chunking or partitioning, to help break down the process.
Lesson 11: Dividing with Remainders
Here, you will learn how to divide numbers that do not divide evenly, resulting in a remainder. You'll understand the notation for expressing division problems with remainders and learn how to solve them.
Lesson 12: Dividing using the Bus Stop Method
This lesson teaches an alternative method for dividing numbers ending in zero, particularly useful for dividing by five or ten. The Bus Stop Method helps you quickly determine the quotient without fully completing the division process.
Lesson 13: Long Division
You will delve deeper into long division, understanding how to handle different types of numbers and how to work with multi-digit divisors and dividends. You'll learn techniques for estimating the result before you perform the exact division.
Lesson 14: Basic BIDMAS and BODMAS
This lesson introduces the concept of BIDMAS (Brackets, Indices, Division and Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction) and BODMAS (Brackets, Orders, Division and Multiplication, Powers and Square Roots, Addition and Subtraction), which are acronyms that describe the order in which mathematical operations should be performed to avoid misunderstandings.
Lesson 15: Advanced BIDMAS and BODMAS
Building on the foundational knowledge from Lesson 14, you will learn how to apply BIDMAS or BODMAS to more complex expressions, including those with multiple brackets and exponents.
Lesson 16: Exam Techniques and Practise
This lesson is crucial for applying the concepts you've learned in a test-like environment. You'll practice under timed conditions, learn effective exam strategies, and tackle sample questions to prepare for your actual exams.
Lesson 17: The Ending
As you complete your mathematical journey, this lesson is an opportunity to reflect on what you've learned, understand the progression of skills, and feel confident in your abilities to apply these concepts going forward. It also provides a review of all the topics covered.
